This weekend, on Sunday, July 12, the third round of the 20chocolate Downhill Cup, the Slovenian national series, will take place on the picturesque Soriška Planina.

After races in Poseka and at the Pohorje Maribor Bike Park, the riders are now in full swing for the season, in the middle of the summer tripleheader—Pohorje, Soriška Planina, and Kranjska Gora—where races follow one another at 14-day intervals. The trilogy concludes with a “double prize” in Kranjska Gora, where, in addition to Cup points, the fastest riders will also compete for national championship medals and titles.

This will be the eleventh national downhill race at Soriška Planina since 2014; it will be the third time the event has been organized by the Omikron Plus Sports Association from Železniki, in collaboration with the Soriška Planina Tourist Center and the Cycling Federation of Slovenia.

The Track

The downhill course starting from just under the top of Lajnar Peak (1,549 m above sea level) is a permanent feature of the Soriška Planina Bike Park and named last year: the Žwau Trai (the Animal)l. The name comes from the old motto of the original organizers, MTB Železniki: “Be an animal!”

The trail will be very similar to last year’s, 1,650 m long with a 280-meter elevation drop. It features plenty of technical sections with roots and rocks, a few fast sections, and even some sprints.

Last year, Maks Struna was the fastest with a time of 2 minutes and 48 seconds.

The Field

Registration closes today, Monday, July 6, at midnight. The list of registered participants is being updated here at prijavim.se.

Schedule

The standard schedule includes a course familiarization on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. On Sunday, official practice will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the seeding run starts at 1:30 p.m., and the final begins at 4 p.m.
